You don’t need a UK or US budget to earn an internationally recognized degree. Poland, Hungary, Cyprus and Malta are all EU member states that offer English-taught programs at lower cost. Here’s how they compare.
| Country | Typical tuition | Work while studying | After graduation |
|---|---|---|---|
| Poland | About €500–6,000 a year (bachelor’s) | Full-time students need no separate work permit | Up to 9 months to look for work |
| Hungary | About €1,200–5,000 a year at public universities | Up to 30 hours a week in term time | Permit options to look for work |
| Cyprus | About €7,000–12,000 a year (private universities) | Up to 20 hours a week in approved sectors | Separate work permit needed |
| Malta | Varies by institution | Up to 20 hours a week with a Jobsplus licence | 9-month post-study permit |
Poland: lowest costs, most freedom to work
Poland has some of Europe’s lowest tuition and living costs, with dormitories from about €60–150 a month. Full-time students can work without a separate work permit. Popular choices include engineering, computer science and English-taught medicine.
Hungary: the scholarship route
Hungary is known for the fully funded Stipendium Hungaricum scholarship, offered to Pakistani students through HEC. It’s also a popular choice for English-taught medicine, dentistry and pharmacy.
Cyprus: English-taught on a Mediterranean island
Most private universities in the Republic of Cyprus teach fully in English. Universities usually handle the entry permit application for you. Check that your university is in the Republic of Cyprus, not the north, so your degree is recognized across the EU.
Malta: English is an official language
Malta is a good fit if you want to study and live in English. Many private institutions accept an MOI letter instead of IELTS. Graduates can apply for a 9-month post-study permit to find work.
Which one is right for you?
The best choice depends on your budget, subject, academic record and career plans. Fees and rules change, so always check current requirements before you apply.
